Widely used for architectural frames, handrails, equipment guards, furniture and general fabrication.
Stainless Steel Round Tube
Specify stainless steel round tube by grade, outside diameter, wall thickness, finish, length and fabrication requirements. This page gives buyers a practical route from common market sizes to a quote-ready specification.
Product overview
What to define before buying stainless steel round tube
Round tube is normally purchased by outside diameter (OD) × wall thickness. Grade, finish, length, manufacturing route and any dimensional or polishing requirement can be just as important as the nominal diameter.
General architectural, fabrication and indoor-to-moderate corrosion service.
Often selected where chloride exposure or a more demanding corrosion environment is expected.
Specify outside diameter × wall, for example 50.8 × 1.5 mm.
Mill, satin / No.4, hairline and mirror-type finishes are common market options.
M03 · Grade selection
Choose the grade from the service environment first
Do not choose round tube only by appearance. Corrosion environment, welding, cleaning chemicals, temperature and fabrication route should drive grade selection.
Common when welded fabrication is important and a low-carbon 304 route is preferred.
Common for more demanding outdoor, coastal or chemical-service environments.
Frequently specified when both welding and improved chloride resistance are important.

Market reference: round stainless mechanical tube is commonly sold in OD sizes from small ornamental diameters through much larger sections. ASTM A554-26 covers welded stainless mechanical tubing in round, square, rectangular and special shapes up to 406.4 mm outside dimension and wall thicknesses from 0.51 mm and over. Commercial stock patterns vary by grade, finish, wall and supplier, so confirm the exact size in the RFQ.
M05 · Dimensions and finish
Define the tube beyond just “rectangular”
A usable purchase specification should state outside diameter, wall thickness, length, finish and any fabrication or dimensional requirement that affects final fit, joining or appearance.
Dimensions
- Outside diameter (OD)
- Nominal wall thickness
- Length or cut length
- ID or bore requirement if critical
- OD / ovality / straightness if project-critical
Surface finish
- Mill finish
- 2B-related strip finish before forming
- No.4 / satin brushed
- Hairline finish
- Mirror-type decorative finish
Fabrication details
- Cut to length
- Square, deburred or mitred cut
- Weld-seam / bead appearance requirement
- Protective film if required
- Packaging for cosmetic surfaces
M06 · Selection guide
Match the tube specification to the actual use
Worked example
Example of a clear round tube specification
A short, explicit specification is easier to review than a request that only says “304 stainless round tube.”
Example only
This is a sample buying format, not a stock promise. Replace each field with the actual project requirement before ordering.
M08 · Applications
Where stainless steel round tube is commonly used
Round rails, posts and architectural details with brushed or polished surfaces.
Tables, frames, shelving, retail fixtures and decorative assemblies.
Machine guards, light frames, supports and fabricated industrial assemblies.
Mechanical and appearance-driven tube applications where corrosion resistance and finish matter.
Non-product-contact rails and frames where cleanability and corrosion resistance are important.
Cut, bent and welded round-tube components across commercial and industrial projects.
M10 · Standards
Standards and purchasing references
Use the actual project standard as the governing requirement. Do not mix a decorative mechanical-tube request with a pressure, sanitary, instrumentation or structural tubing requirement without checking the applicable specification.
Welded stainless steel mechanical tubing. The standard covers square, rectangular, round and special shapes for applications where appearance, mechanical properties or corrosion resistance are required.
General-service or sanitary stainless tubing may follow different standards from A554. Use the route required by the actual project rather than choosing by tube shape alone.
For critical OD, wall, ovality, straightness, polish, weld-seam appearance, fabrication or inspection, place the requirement directly on the RFQ or drawing.
