Sheet Nesting Calculator

Estimate how many rectangular parts fit on a stainless steel sheet and plan sheet quantity and material utilization.

Sheet Nesting Calculator

Enter sheet dimensions, part dimensions and required quantity.

FormulaParts per sheet = max(floor(sheet width ÷ part width) × floor(sheet length ÷ part length), rotated layout). Sheets required = ceiling(quantity ÷ parts per sheet).

Enter values and keep the result with the quotation assumptions.

Calculation result

Enter values and calculate.

Use the calculated result for early planning, then confirm the specification and supplier data before ordering.

  • Two-orientation rectangular nesting
  • Sheet and part dimensions
  • Quantity and utilization estimate

Technical reference

Sheet Nesting Calculator basis and limits

This calculator provides a rectangular nesting estimate using two orientations and does not model kerf, grain direction or irregular profiles.

Confirm cutting allowance, edge trim, grain direction, nesting software result, tolerance and usable stock dimensions before releasing a cutting plan.

Important Use the result for quotation preparation and early planning; it does not replace a certified measurement, drawing review or supplier confirmation.

Calculation method

Formula and worked example

01

Sheet Nesting Calculator formula

Use the inputs and units shown in the calculator, then review the assumptions before using the estimate.

Parts per sheet = max(floor(sheet width ÷ part width) × floor(sheet length ÷ part length), rotated layout). Sheets required = ceiling(quantity ÷ parts per sheet).
02

Worked example

A 2,000 × 1,000 mm sheet can fit 20 parts sized 500 × 200 mm before kerf and edge allowances.

2,000 ÷ 500 × 1,000 ÷ 200 = 20 parts per sheet; 37 ÷ 20 = 2 sheets.
