Stainless Steel Pipe Weight Calculator

Estimate stainless steel pipe weight from outside diameter, wall thickness, length, density and quantity before preparing a formal quotation.

Technical Calculator

Pipe Weight Calculator

This stainless steel pipe weight calculator estimates pipe weight from outside diameter, wall thickness, length and density. It is useful for material takeoff, purchasing, export packing and preliminary freight planning for welded or seamless stainless steel pipe.

Enter Pipe Dimensions

Enter the requested dimensions below. All dimensions are metric.

Calculation Result

Enter dimensions and calculate.

The result is a theoretical planning weight. Final production and shipment weight can vary because of dimensional tolerance and packing.

  • Weight per meter
  • Total material weight
  • Automatic dimensional validation

Calculation Basis and Limits

Mass equals geometric volume multiplied by density. All dimensions must be positive and quantity must be a positive whole number.

This stainless steel estimator accepts density from 6 to 10 g/cm³. Confirm the actual stainless steel grade and density before using the result for formal purchasing.

Wall thickness must be less than half of the outside diameter. The result is a theoretical weight estimate and is not a pressure, structural or load rating.

1 mm³ = 0.001 cm³ and 1000 g = 1 kg. Packing, weld reinforcement, manufacturing tolerance and cut losses are not included.

Important Use this tool for purchasing and freight planning, then ask the supplier to confirm actual shipment weight.

Calculation Method

Formula and Worked Example

01

Pipe Weight Formula

Use outside diameter and wall thickness in millimeters and density in g/cm³.

kg/m = π × (OD − T) × T × Density ÷ 1000
02

Worked Example

A 60.3 mm outside diameter pipe with 3 mm wall thickness and an assumed density of 7.93 g/cm³ weighs approximately 4.28 kg/m.

6 m length ≈ 25.70 kg

Purchasing Guide

Buying Notes

A useful stainless steel pipe inquiry should include enough technical information for the supplier to check production feasibility, stock availability, pricing and delivery requirements.

01

Pipe Type

Confirm whether the project requires welded or seamless stainless steel pipe.

02

Dimensions

Send outside diameter, wall thickness, length and required quantity.

03

Material Grade

Specify the requested stainless steel grade such as 304, 316 or 316L.

04

Standard

Include the required production, dimensional or testing standard.

05

Application

Describe the intended service environment when corrosion resistance is important.

06

Delivery

Include destination country, target delivery date and packing requirements.

Quotation Planning

How to Use This Estimate in a Quote

The calculated result should be treated as a planning weight rather than the final certified shipment weight.

When sending an inquiry, include the calculated weight together with grade, product form, dimensions, quantity, surface finish, standard, application and destination country.

This helps the supplier determine whether the order can be supplied from stock, requires cutting, or requires custom production.

Weight Tolerance

What Can Change the Final Weight

  • Actual production tolerance can make the delivered material slightly heavier or lighter.
  • Protective film, wooden cases, pallets and straps increase gross shipment weight.
  • Cutting, trimming, machining and processing can create material loss.
  • Different stainless steel grades can use slightly different density values.

Frequently Asked Questions

Stainless Steel Pipe Weight FAQ

Outside diameter, wall thickness, length, quantity and density are needed for a useful stainless steel pipe weight estimate.
Round stainless steel tube uses similar calculation logic, while square and rectangular tube require their outside section dimensions.
No. The result is a theoretical material estimate. Actual production tolerance, packing, pallets, cases and other export materials can change the final gross weight.
The calculator uses 7.93 g/cm³ as the default planning value. For formal engineering or purchasing work, confirm the appropriate density for the specified stainless steel grade.
Yes. The theoretical weight is useful for early freight and container planning, but the supplier should confirm net weight, packing weight and final gross shipment weight before shipping.
