JIS stainless steel standards are product-specific. A SUS grade symbol must be paired with the correct product standard, edition, dimensions, condition, finish, tests and inspection documents.

Cold-rolled flat products
JIS G 4305:2021 covers cold-rolled stainless plate, sheet and strip.
Hot-worked bars
JIS G 4303:2021 covers hot-worked round, square, hexagonal and flat stainless bars.
Cold-finished bars
JIS G 4318:2016 covers cold-finished stainless bars and remains active after 2025 confirmation.
Stainless pipe
JIS G 3459:2021 covers stainless pipe for corrosion, low/high temperature and related piping service.
Boiler and exchanger tube
JIS G 3463:2023 covers stainless tubes transferring heat in boilers, exchangers and condensers within scope.

Write a complete JIS stainless line item
A grade symbol becomes purchasable when it is connected to product, dimensions, delivery condition and verification.
State standard and edition
Name the exact JIS product standard and year required by the order.
State grade and product symbol
Use the SUS designation and any product suffix required by the standard.
Define dimensions and finish
Add form, nominal dimensions, permitted tolerances, surface, edge, length and condition.
Define tests and documents
List chemistry, mechanical, corrosion, NDE or pressure tests, inspection document, marking and packaging.
Limits and escalation
Do not treat JIS and ASTM or EN labels as automatic equivalents
Similar chemistry is not full equivalence
Standards can differ in ranges, properties, dimensions, sampling and documentation.
Scope controls the suffix
Plate, strip, pipe and tube symbols and requirements depend on the product standard.
Current does not mean contract edition
Projects may freeze an earlier edition; confirm legal and contractual basis.
