Technical guide
GB stainless steel standards are selected by product form and service. A Chinese grade designation must be paired with the correct standard, edition, dimensions, condition, finish, tests and inspection documents.
Decision summary
Hot-rolled sheet, cold-rolled strip, seamless fluid pipe and welded pipe use different GB/T documents even when the alloy designation looks similar.
GB/T 4237 covers hot-rolled stainless plate, sheet and strip within its scope.
GB/T 3280 covers cold-rolled stainless plate, sheet and strip.
GB/T 1220 covers stainless steel bars and associated delivery requirements.
GB/T 14976-2025 is current and took effect on 1 February 2026.
GB/T 12771-2019 covers welded stainless steel pipe for fluid transport.
A GB designation and an ASTM, EN or JIS label are not automatically interchangeable.
Reference table
Use the official national standards portal to confirm status, implementation date, amendments and the contract edition.

Working method
Connect the alloy designation to a product standard and a traceable inspection package.
State the exact GB/T number and year required by the contract.
Use the controlled Chinese designation plus plate, strip, bar, seamless pipe or welded pipe.
Add dimensions, tolerances, condition, finish, edge, ends, heat treatment and quantity.
Specify chemistry, mechanical, corrosion, pressure/NDE tests, document type, marking and packing.
Limits and escalation
Product scope, properties, test methods and tolerances can differ.
A replacement can change requirements and implementation dates.
Use the authorized version named by the contract.
Do not substitute welded and seamless standards without engineering and purchaser approval.

GB standards context
A GB material reference does not define the full supply condition alone. Confirm the relevant product scope, dimensions, delivery state and inspection requirements.
