For a formed cover, panel or process-equipment housing, define blank dimensions, bend radii, grain direction when relevant, joining method and final cleaning. Austenitic 304 can be cold-formed, but work-hardening and springback influence tooling and repeatability. Confirm surface protection and trial criteria before a production run.
Formed equipment cover
ServiceIndoor splash, washdown and routine cleaning
Starting grade304 sheet after cleaner and chloride review
Why it worksGood general corrosion resistance and established forming route
LimitsTight radii can work-harden material and mark the visible face
MaintenanceConfirm bend trial, remove fabrication residue and inspect corners
Architectural panel or enclosure
ServiceAtmospheric exposure with defined finish requirements
Starting grade304 sheet for mild inland exposure
Why it worksAvailable finishes support clean, durable fabricated surfaces
LimitsCoastal salt and sheltered deposits may need greater corrosion margin
MaintenanceKeep finish direction consistent and rinse salt deposits
Process-equipment housing
ServiceIntermittent wet service with controlled cleaning
Starting grade304 sheet subject to media and temperature review
Why it worksCan be cut, formed and joined using common fabrication methods
LimitsCrevices, weld heat tint and iron contamination undermine performance
MaintenanceSpecify accessible joints, compatible cleaners and surface inspection
Inspection and acceptance: At receipt, reconcile heat/lot identity and certificate to the purchase order. Inspect thickness, width, length, flatness, edge condition and surface under the agreed sampling plan. Put measurement method, tolerances, finish acceptance, certificate type and any PMI or supplementary test in the order.
